Oh What A Lovely War

I was responsible for designing and operating the audiovisual elements for a satirical World War I play, using QLab to precisely synchronise projections with live on-stage action in real time.

The production offered a scathing critique of the relentless brutality and repetition of war, highlighting the stark disconnect between soldiers on the front lines and the distant leaders dictating their fate.

The audiovisual design played a vital role in reinforcing these themes, often acting as a stark contrast to the on-stage performances. One of the most powerful moments for me was the letter-reading scene—an emotionally charged sequence brought to life by the actors' compelling performances. As a soldier's heartfelt words were spoken, the projection juxtaposed his hopeful sentiments with the grim, inescapable horrors of war. This striking contrast between personal vulnerability and the brutal reality of conflict created an intensely poignant and unsettling effect, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
